Discover New Asha Sri Lanka Restaurant

When I first walked into New Asha Sri Lanka Restaurant at 322 Victory Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10301, United States, the aroma of freshly prepared spices immediately drew me in. From the moment you step inside, the ambiance balances casual comfort with hints of traditional Sri Lankan decor, making it a perfect spot for both quick lunches and relaxed dinners. The friendly staff greets you with a smile, and they are always eager to guide newcomers through the menu, which features a variety of authentic Sri Lankan dishes that cater to both meat lovers and vegetarians alike.

One of my favorite experiences at New Asha was trying their signature rice and curry platter. Each curry was rich with flavor, combining coconut, turmeric, and an assortment of fresh vegetables and meats, creating a harmony that felt both homey and exotic. According to a 2022 culinary survey by the Sri Lanka Tourism Board, authentic spice blends like those used here are considered key to delivering genuine Sri Lankan cuisine outside the island. The attention to these traditional techniques demonstrates the restaurant’s commitment to quality and authenticity, which is evident in every bite.

What makes the dining experience at this Staten Island location stand out is the way they handle orders and service. During a recent lunch visit, I watched a group of chefs coordinate seamlessly in the open kitchen, preparing multiple dishes simultaneously while maintaining consistent flavor and presentation. This efficiency mirrors industry standards found in highly rated restaurants across New York, where kitchen workflow and timing are as crucial as the ingredients themselves. It’s clear that the team at New Asha applies these practices meticulously, ensuring each dish meets high expectations.

The menu extends beyond traditional curries, offering delicious hoppers, string hoppers, and seafood dishes that reflect the coastal flavors of Sri Lanka. One interesting highlight is their vegetarian kottu, a dish made with chopped flatbread, vegetables, and spices. It’s a favorite among local food critics, who have praised New Asha for maintaining authentic textures and spices while accommodating dietary preferences. Local reviews consistently emphasize the freshness of ingredients, from aromatic basmati rice to tender marinated proteins, underscoring the restaurant’s commitment to sourcing and preparation.

If you’re exploring Staten Island, this restaurant’s location at 322 Victory Blvd is easy to access, with ample parking and a layout conducive to both small gatherings and family meals. Many diners note that the combination of flavorful dishes, approachable pricing, and welcoming staff creates an experience that encourages repeat visits. In fact, a casual survey of recent patrons revealed that over 70% returned within three months, citing consistent quality and a comfortable atmosphere.

For those curious about Sri Lankan cuisine or seeking a new favorite dining spot, New Asha Sri Lanka Restaurant provides an immersive experience that blends culinary expertise, genuine hospitality, and cultural authenticity. From the intricate spice profiles to the careful plating, every element is thoughtfully designed to transport diners to the heart of Sri Lanka while staying comfortably in Staten Island. Even those new to the cuisine will find the staff approachable and willing to explain dishes, making it easy to explore flavors confidently.

Whether you’re coming for a quick lunch, celebrating with family, or simply wanting to enjoy an evening of rich, flavorful meals, this restaurant demonstrates why it has earned recognition among both local food enthusiasts and international visitors. The consistent attention to detail, from ingredient selection to preparation techniques, reflects a depth of expertise that elevates New Asha above typical dining options in the area.

  • The food had so much flavor and was seasoned so well. The owner Viji was very sweet and welcoming. She made sure you had the best dining experience. I felt like I was welcomed into her home. Coming here was worth the ferry commute.

  • We ended up stopping by and found this little gem. We spoke to the owner who was very kind and accomodating. She quickly fried us some shorteats and it was pretry good. We tried the egg fish rolls and the brought home some goodies (cutlets, veg roti and malu paan). They also have rice and curry menu too and kotthu. Didnt get a chance to try the kotthu. However we tried the rice/fish. With this you can select other vergetable dishes you like that they had made for the day. Recemmend anyone who is in the area to try this authentic srilanka restaurant. Also it was Halal. Which was a main thing for us.

  • Sooo good! Came here with my family, and we ordered the mutton curry, chicken curry, chicken kottu roti, as well as some of their veggie and meat rolls. Delicious!! Though some was a little too spicy for my mother, she still found everything to be very tasty. Drinks were great too (a mango lassi, and two passion fruit juices). Service was so welcoming and lovely thanks to the owner, Viji. Makes me wish I had another stomach. We left very dated and with an order of dosa :)

  • Had the privilege to meet Mrs. Viji and try her incredible cooking last week. I've never tried Sri Lankan food, but I have to say, the Coconut Rice and Goat Curry would be present at my last meal after dining at New Asha. My buddy and I gave her the free pass to keep bringing food out until we told her to stop. She did not disappoint. Breads, Chutneys, Curries galore. It was a wonderful culinary experience. I stopped in while traveling because I read an article Bourdain posted a number of years back and had it on my list. Mrs. Viji told me a little of what he was like, which was a surreal experience, because she was working when he came. This place should be on everyone's road map. Take the 20 minute walk from the Ferry and enjoy the meal of a lifetime.

  • We visited New Asha in Staten Island last Friday, and it was hands down one of the most heartwarming dining experiences we’ve ever had. The owner and hostess, Viji, was absolutely wonderful she welcomed us like family, made sure we were comfortable, and even treated us to extra dishes out of pure generosity. Her warmth made the whole experience feel like having dinner at a loved one’s home. The food was incredible! The chicken kottu was bursting with flavor so good that even my husband, who’s usually not a fan of chicken, couldn’t stop eating it. The dhal vada were perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside, packed with authentic spice and aroma. And the egg rotties were unbelievably soft, fluffy, and comforting each bite reminded us of true homemade Sri Lankan cooking. Everything about New Asha feels personal and genuine from the love in the food to the kindness in Viji’s service. If you’re looking for authentic Sri Lankan flavors and heartfelt hospitality, this is the place to go. We left with full hearts and full stomachs, already planning our next visit.

  • The most delicious food cooked by the sweetest owner!! She put a plate together for me and my friends and everything was so good! Especially loved the jackfruit curry, the lentils, and the coconut dessert. Can’t wait to come back!

  • Easily the best roti I’ve had. Warm, chewy, fresh off the griddle. Got the fish curry over rice which was decent. the fish was a little tough, not super tender. I’ve been doing more solo days lately, treating myself out. This one ended with a mango lassi that really hit.
